WOYWW #217

Hi everyone.. I was absent last Wednesday just didn't get a chance to get a post done..  I think that is the first time I have missed WOYWW for ages.  I have been experimenting with watercolours and having a grand old time doodling. I brought a water colour journal and its been lots of fun.  I have been pencilling the patterns in then colouring with the watercolours and going around it in the black montana paint pen and the signo white pen..  I find it relaxing to just play with all the patterns and am liking all the colours.. I will fill this all in yet with patterns and still have to do the other half so bit to play with here yet. Here is one of my finished ones and there are more on my blog Here

Oh I can leave you with some photo's of my cat Mittens she is playing a cat game on my daughters Ipad She loves the mouse that zooms over the screen..

Action shot on the left and the finished painting on the right you can just kind of make out the mouse on the screen here. She looks so proud of her work and its so funny when she tries to look under the ipad to see if the mouse is under there.. It has a scratch proof cover on it so it does not damage the screen.. She now looks at my iphone to see if that darn mouse is on that one too where before she would not take any notice of the phone.

Doodling...

I have been busy doing some doodling inspired by Tracy over at Mixed Media Monday
I brought myself a little water colour journal and have been trying out different patterns.  I am finding this very relaxing.  I just pencil in my patterns, then water colour and go around it with my new black montana paint pen.  I also brought a nib pen with some ink and have been practising writing with that as I was finding my black pens where just not working the way I wanted them too.  Sorry I have been a bit lax in posting on my blog but have been busy with life!! You know it gets in the way of blogging sometimes..  So hope you like my colourful pattern play it was such fun and am going off to work on another one right now..

I am not sure what kind of bug or butterfly this on the bottom picture. I think I just invented a new one, but hey it turned out pretty in that pink..

Just for fun I am going to pop these at the following..

WOYWW #215

Well last week I mentioned to someone that I should show my banner of owls that sit over my desk, so here they are.. They are the cutest little things hey and fit so perfect over my window here.. They where a gift from my sons friend who saw them at a market and thought I would like them. Well I love them they are so cute, so lovely that he thought of me..  Finished the page I was working on in my journal and I also went back to the craft shop that is closing down 50% off everything now.. I got 3 stencils 2 Prima Donna Downey and a Crafters Workshop, some rubons for 50c and a cool stamp set that will be great to use on frills for dresses on collage girls..  I spent ages in there and said to the lady that it will be sad when you close and that I am becoming a regular here every two weeks. She said that some people come twice a day as they are always putting new stuff out on the cheap table and that she had to put blinders on now as there was so many bargains out at the moment.. Imagine working there with all that stuff on sale..

Here is my page so you don't have to squint...

Find Your Way...

This was just one huge experiment of all things that where new to me.  I have been experimenting with the children's version of gelatos.. I have been reading a lot about people comparing them and thought as I did not have any gelatos at all why not try the childrens ones as people have said that they are very similar.. So thought hey why not. So I did this background and they where fun and very soft and creamy to use, sprayed water and blended I know that hmm will need some practice with them.. Had painted book paper on my desk so that had to go on top of some Gesso in the middle.  I also brought some new washi tape was great to get some coloured ones and thought this went well with my experimental background.. So what words to use well I really think that I am trying to find my style in all this and I think I am getting some thought to what that could be.. So thought well I am trying all these new things I had better use my new alphabet stamps so stamped "Find your way" was perfect for this page so finished it all off with the arrows on the other page and a bit of bubble wrap stamping and well that was it done. I hope you like my experimental pages, I enjoyed using all my new items was good to get them all out of the packets..

WOYWW #214

On my desk this week is my journal, I am playing with washi tape.  I finally found some at a reasonable price and snapped them up so had to put some on my journal page.. Hung them all on my mug tree as I can see them all this way.. I also brought gelatos well the cheap kids ones to see what all the fuss is about and yes they are creamy and smooth to use.  The background on my journal page is done with them think they will take a bit of practice till I am happy with the look. I also brought this fantastic alphabet stamp set with upper and lower case lettering so am going to stamp a quote on here somewhere and try them out..  I have been looking for one this size for a while and was very happy when I found this one and it was at a reasonable price.  I found all these items at Kmart for other Australians out there looking for reasonable priced washi and craft supplies.
We have been to that wonderful second hand book store again and this week well I was so excited.. It even had the perfect title The encyclopaedia of Ideas, how awesome is that.. It has over 900 pages and nearly every one has fantastic pictures.  Just a few at the left hand side here. I love the hand and how fantastic is that bird man. I am going to have so much fun using these.. The only thing is hmm to print and copy the pages or to use the book, its a dilemma.  Its an awesome book and know that some of the pages I would want to use more than once..

I just thought she was adorable and had a lot of fun working out what I was going to do. I do enjoy making cards but think my art journal is taking over lately, so it was a nice change to make a card..

Dream...

So I finally got some plasterers tape last week and could not wait to use it.. I undid the roll straight away and stuck it all over this page with heaps of modpodge..  I then went over it with gesso over the top just lightly.  Got the baby wipes out and painted with turquoise paint.  I had the men done sitting on my desk with there little tag from the other week, when I changed my mind about the theme. So that was what I was wanting to use as I liked them and thought they fitted well on this textured background.  I also used pages from the dictionary that I just brought from the second hand book store. They are really thin so popped Tim Holtz washi tape down them to give them support.  I had scraps of lace left over from another project and I sewed them on under the tags.. I don't have a clue why I ripped the tag then sewed it together like that but I liked it.. Its distressed all smudged and grunged with walnut distress ink around all the edges.  I really liked this quote it fitted with everything I am thinking at the moment.  Its funny how a quote just sticks out and says pick me, pick me..
Quote is "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."                                                                                      C. S. Lewis.

Everything you need...

When I was  thinking about doing mixed media it was kind of daunting to think that I needed all this stuff to do it.. A whole new list of things popped up that I had never heard of Gesso, Pit pens, Montana markers, Gel medium. Well I really thought now I can't do that there is just too much to get.. I brought the Gesso as this seemed to be the one thing that was used on everything. I was sitting down having a coffee and I was still thinking about all the other stuff I would need, when I read my stars in the paper.  Well what did it say you ask? Well it said. "You already have everything you need to do what you want".. So I thought hmm.  I had some paints already, I can make stencils this is one of my home made ones around the border of this page.  I used a second hand gardening journal to try it out at first to see if it was something that I wanted to follow through with. Yes, I am so glad that I have tried this and I love it!! I love the messiness of it, all the paint and sprays.  I have slowly gathered other things over the months but these words have always stuck with me.  That hey you can do it, you don't have to have everything to start, the main thing is if you want to try it, is to give it a go and to just start with what you have.

On this page I used clingwrap over really wet paint to give it some texture and let it dry overnight.. The border is with my homemade stencil and the circles are a bottle lid dipped in paint.  Some splatters of paint that was fun got it everywhere.. I wasn't sure about the purple and yellow but I liked it with the black splashes on top, it really toned it down. The numbers are done with a stencil from Dylusions and some gesso its one of my favourites to use.. Charcoal pencil around the printed wording..

Just for fun I am going to pop these at the following..

WOYWW #213

I tried something new with my journal and used some things I had lying around to do the background and was really quite surprised.. I used clingwrap over paint to give it some texture, was fun to try, will do a post with more detail shortly. But its desks you are wanting to see.. So on mine is my journal just finished this page. We went shopping today and dropped by the hardware and I got some plasterers joining tape, I got a huge roll so will keep me going for ages so yay have been after this for a while. I love the texture when I see this on other peoples pages and canvases so am looking for ward to trying this out. Its been on my wish list for a while.  The other thing I brought today was a dictionary at the second hand book store. Now if you are sensitive about books don't look at this next bit.. I am really looking forward to ripping it up for backgrounds, its another thing on my wish list I can tick off..  Also popped back to the closing down sale at the craft store and got a stencil for 40% off and a few rub ons, so a few bargains.  Will look forward to using those.
