Mixed Media Cards...

I needed to make some cards my stash is getting low.  If anyone needs a card they come and dig through my draw to see what they can find, often there is something there that they like.  My draw is getting quite low in stock though, so thought I would do a few Mixed Media cards to add to it.
I added some distress ink to my craft mat and sprayed with water. Then I got a file folder that I had added some Tim Holtz washi tape and did the slap and drag method to get some colour on it. Then I cut them to card size so I got 4 cards out of one side of a file folder. I then added some stenciling with distress ink and the mini chicken wire Crafters Workshop stencil. Stamped my favourite stamp at the moment the doodled triangle. Grabbed some Gesso on my finger and rubbed over the top. Then added DecoArt Sea Breeze Americana paint with my finger to blend it.  This Butterfly stamp from Tim Holtz is one of my favourites.

So added some embossing with Black and the blue is Faded Jeans embossing powder by Ranger. I used the great quote stamp from Stampin'up, it's from the stamp set called Butterfly prints.

Well it was great to do some cards need to make a few more yet but this is a start. I have the other half of the file folder done with some distress colour so will do some more cards with that.

I am entering this in the challenge at
Simon Says Wednesday Challenge Use a Crafters Workshop stencil.

Have a great day.

Socks...

I was browsing Pinterest when I found this Sock Pattern and thought that would be perfect for using up some of my scrap wool.. Probably thinking this as my feet were cold. So I grabbed a set of 4 knitting needles and yup I knitted a sock.
Never thought I would post a picture of my foot but think it kind of needed to be in the sock. So you could see how it stretches to fit. It was very snuggly and warm.

Gee they are quick to knit its a fabulous pattern. Thinking I might just as the lady said on the pattern, get some home spun wool to knit. That would be really soft and comfy. Think this will not be my last pair of knitted socks that I do.. These could be quite addictive, kind of like the scarfs I like knitting.

I like the stripe of burgundy and it is a good way to use up more scraps of wool. Although it looks quite red in the photo.
At least one foot is cosy.. Should have the other foot warm by tomorrow.. I am making good progress now that I am getting the hang of using 4 needles again. So that is what I am creating at the moment and having a bit of fun with a new challenge.

Circles...

Well thought I would make some pretty file folders for me to use. As why not have them pretty to hold my papers in.. So now I have a lovely bright file folder all in my favourite colours with lots of circles. Yep think I have an addiction to these colours and doing circles. I am also really liking that little triangle stamp. Wonder how long I have had that and now it is on everything.

First I collaged with some random left over papers that were on my desk. When it was finished I sewed all around it then one end as I wanted to have it so that I can keep it on my desk and not have everything fall out. Of course when I went to sew it my thread kept breaking.. Think I threaded my machine about 6 times till I figured out what the problem was.. The bobbin thread was running out and it wasn't getting the tension. So just swapped it out to white because I thought it was the thread.. So its black and white thread hey it all adds to it in the end..
I used the DecoArt Americana Acrylics in
Purple Pizzaz
Vivid Violet
Wisteria
Sea Breeze
and of course Black and Snow for splashes with the fan brush.
I used a few different stencils today spots, triangles and the Andy Skinner Code Breaker with Black.

Random art...

I just thought I would have a bit of a play with some stuff I have had sitting around unfinished. Thought I would add a few more layers and see where it went after that. I used collage, stamps and some DecoArt Americana Acrylics. These are on big Index cards so bit of a warm up for Index Card A Day that starts on June 1st. Have not heard of Index Card a day? Get all the details about it at the Daisy Yellow blog. Tammy runs it and we get a prompt every day. All you use is index cards and any Art supplies you have. You can do anything you like on the index cards, you don't even have to follow the prompts. The point is to do ART every day from June 1st to July 31. Awesome fun to do.. I did every day last year and it was a eyeopener for me. It was the first time I realised that you know what.. I can draw!! Yep I was always one of the people who thought I couldn't. Since then I sketch something just about every day.. Crazy characters are my favourites to do. Oh and Zendangles of course.
So come along and join in the fun because that is all it is just pure fun.
Hope to see you there.

Love the art...

Today I watched Tracy from Mixed Media Monday.. Tracy was having awful trouble with the Ustream today.. After the stream, we found out her teenage son was downloading a movie and that is why Ustream kept cutting out. Oh dear, bet there was a few words said.. I really liked the little bit I did see. It was enough to get me all inspired to do some pod type flowers. Tracy's ended up being more Dr Seuss like.

I am not sure what mine are. I just had fun with colours and trying to blend them. I used all DecoArt Media line paints today, a  few of them too.. Background was Cobalt Turquoise Hue around the edge. Then I mixed Cobalt Teal Hue with Titan Buff to get the lighter blue. For the flower pod thingies. I used Primary Magenta and Quinacridone Violet and blended them together. Need to practice my blending more. Made some circles at the edges just because I can.. Paint pen for the stems with spots done with the signo white pen. Put highlights here and there with more of the white pen and around the border to blend it in. Went around the flowers with the Stabilo black pencil and then with a waterbrush. With the background to give it more interest, I used the Andy Skinner stencil Whirlpool with my round blending tool and Distress ink in Peacock feathers. France Papillon's design cube yep little spot side used today..
I realised flicking through my Moleskine Art Journal so far, that I had not written in this Art journal yet. I have been using print outs from my computer for the quotes. So thought it was time I did write in it today.

Dangles...

Realised today that I have not posted any of the dangles that I have been doing so thought you might like to see one.. This is done with the Sakura Glaze pens.. I find these so relaxing to do.. There is a few different ones on here.. I am always on the lookout for a new dangle to add.. Like those ones that look like little weights.

I love the way these pens make it sparkle..
So that's it for me today. A short and sparkly blog post.

Sketching...

Sometimes I just grab my sketchbook and draw.. Today I was looking at the characters on my computer. I have them on the background screen. I have always thought they were rather cute. So today I grabbed my pen and sketchbook and as it randomly changed I drew a few characters. So this is a mix of all the different ones that rolled by. Yes bugs need boots too. I like the person at the bottom they have a cape on. Kind of like they are there saying.. Just moving through you cant see me among all this weirdness.

Fabric paper...

Watched Barb Owen live this morning on ustream from How to get creative.  Barb was making fabric paper and as I had everything to make it, I had a go this afternoon. So it was just lots of decoupage glue mixed with a little water and tissue paper, napkins, deli paper. All torn up into pieces.. Glued all onto Calico or as some call it Muslin fabric.

Then when its wet you add paint.. Hmmm well not sure about the paint part. Think I might have used too much or needed more of a transparent paint.

This is after the paint not sure if I like it. Might look ok when its cut up into sections. Maybe might just get cut it up for flowers or add some more layers of stamping.. But hey not everything works the first time you do it.. It might grow on me..

Talking of growing here is the same Broad bean seedling and the coriander photo bombing again from last week.. Thought it might be fun to do a weekly update of the same little plants.

Courage... Paint Party Friday...

I had some fun with my Niece this morning showing her the Gelli plate. We made a heap of prints on deli paper and some we put on cardstock.. When I got home I so wanted to use some of the prints we made. So I did this Art Journal page.. So just random circles cut out with a circle punch and glued on with the DecoArt Decoupage glue. I just loved the DecoArt Americana Acrylic Purple Pizzazz what a awesome colour. It really pops off the page. I used it on my background over some Sea Breeze. (My favourite colour). Always a good start to start with your favourite colour. For the diamonds, I used the Dylusion stencil and Turquoise Blue with a makeup sponge. Then lots of doodling around with a stabilo pencil and a waterbrush to bring the colour out. Around and around with my Pilot Perma Ball black pen and then little bits of white with the Signo white pen. I even added some pencil around the circles. What a great find in my stamp collection with the doodled triangles. Stamped them in the Momento Tuxedo black. How I had missed that one in my stamp collection, I just don't know. I know that it is going to be a new favourite to live on my desk for a while. It was in a set from Creative called Wonderlust.

Making pillows...

I was making a journal cover from a tutorial from Teesha Moore it is on Vimeo here. It is a 4 part tutorial on how to make journal covers from these as Teesha calls them little pillows.. There is some fantastic journals that Teesha has made and it is well worth a look at her wonderful tutorials. Teesha has made bags and wall hangings all from this simple technique.
I started mine last year and got one side done and then I just kind of left it. I bought one of those fat quarters of materials.. A mixed selection of coordinating fabrics. I liked this one as it had lots of purple and black and white fabrics. So what got me going again on this. Well I had a big clean out last week and found the bag with all the pieces.  I hung it on the doorknob of my room so I would do more. When we were out shopping last week I needed needles for my sewing machine. I saw this lovely fabric on sale for half price. So that kind of inspired me to keep going.

This is Misty my kitty. My daughter bought the bed for her cat and it sat on it once and just never liked it. So she thought that my cats might use it. Misty liked this spot near the fire but there was not really anything there for her to sit on. They are funny how they just find a spot and that is where they go back to.  So we just put the bed there and well, I think she likes it. She looks so tiny on such a big bed.

Helmar

Hi all a sneak peek of my Design Team project over at Helmar today. Pop over to the Helmar blog post for all the details and see where this little guy ended up.

I had a lot of fun doing this project.. It took me a lot longer to do than what I had anticipated. Lots of detailed cutting up of pieces and doodling. I have made things like this before but never with Helmar glue. They have fallen apart and I have never attempted to make them for ages. It is so disappointing when you just cant get them to stick properly. I tell you what though, I am so impressed with the way the Helmar products worked, it is so rock solid. There is no way this is falling apart. This will be the first of many of these desk caddy's that I make.

The Helmar products used in this project where
 Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste,
 Helmars 450 quick Dry Adhesive
and the Crystal Kote Matte Spray they all worked a treat..

Have a great day

Mothers Day...

Look what I got for mothers day.. Woohoo just what I needed a little greenhouse. This is just the perfect size for me. I don't need a huge one just one big enough that I can grow the few punnets of seeds, that I need for my vegetable garden.. It just a little over 4 foot high. It has the one shelf but has a bit of a garden bed part at the bottom. I can now plant things in to experiment growing things out of season. That will be fun to try to do..

So its all in place and ready to go. We assembled it in the lounge room last night. Lots of little nuts and bolts, so easier to put it together in there. It is very light so when we put it outside we dug it into the crushed rock, just a little and filled it with a couple of bags of organic potting mix.
Tomorrows job is to put some plants in it and move my seeds to the upgraded spot.
Hope you had a lovely Mothers day.

Shopping...

I got an unexpected bonus the other day when I bought some craft items at Typo.. It's one of my favourite stores to look around in. You just never know what you are going to find. Well I bought 2 tins of cards, they were half price. Then they were also on a table that said 30% off all marked price. Woohoo..

The cards were these ones, Rolling Stones. I am not a massive fan or anything but to cut these cards up and use them for collage, yep. Great images for that.

Then these ones, they will make it into my collages somewhere. The tins will make fabulous mini journals or just something to store things in.
So what was the unexpected bonus. The bag that they gave me the tins in.. Isn't it awesome will be going on some collage for sure.. Look at the crossword and the bingo tickets. The Elephant and the bike. So many little images that I will be able to use on this bag.

The veggies are growing...

Well here they are the veggie garden photos..
In the first photo we have carrots at the front.. Mixed in the row with them were the seed did not sprout we have some lettuce. At the back is green beans they have nearly finished now but have fed us a lot.. We planted the seed really late so we were happy to get anything out of them. Few stragglers of Zucchini and a pile of chicken Manure ready for spreading when the beans and the Zucchini come out.

Above is the Broccoli at the front and then we have some more carrots. They germinated much better than the other ones no gaps in these 3 rows. More lettuce at the back on the left. We pop lettuce anywhere there is a spot.. On the right at the back are onions.. They don't look much but we always get a good crop of onions.. Only just finished the ones we grew last year so we did well. Thinking we maybe might put in some more. I have some red onions growing in the little green house. We have all those to plant in a few weeks.

Not much happening in the broad beans yet but got a close up of them just coming out of the ground for you.. With a little bit of coriander photo bombing. We have coriander growing in all the corners of the veggie garden.. The chickens and the rabbits love it.

Look at my Lemon tree there is lemons everywhere. You would not think I have already picked 2 buckets of lemons off it. They are a bit small but they are full of juice. The bees must have been really busy.. Will have to give it a prune after the lemons all come off as it is dragging on the ground. I don't want the branches to break, so will give it a bit of a shape up.

Colouring Book

I have been seeing a lot of people talking about colouring books for adults.. So when I saw this one in the book store I thought it looked just the one for me.  Lots of patterns and think this of all of them will be my sort of thing. There are fabulous patterns in it, that will be great inspirational fun for drawing in my sketch book too.. Here is a link to the book on Amazon if you are interested in getting one.. There is also one called Calming colouring Nature Patterns that looks wonderful too..

Very short post today have been in the vegetable garden.. Will hope to see some sunshine tomorrow so I can take some photos of everything growing for you.

Books...

I have been on a bit of a splurge looking for books that I can use in my collage.. Thought I would do a bit on what I have found for inspiration for drawing and just for use as collage fodder.. I know some people will be going oh no you cant do that to a perfectly good book.  My friend was so horrified when I used one book by her favourite author in my collage pieces.. That book has gone on everything for over a year now and it still has a few pages left.  It has great paper in it.

Yep Star Wars you say? Well last year in ICAD I drew R2D2 and found it was great to draw robots and this has lots of robots and spaceships for reference for drawing.
This is a fabulous book on Dragons I so want to have a go at drawing some dragons in my sketchbook.  I love the embossed cover it shines and has so much texture. Might do one of those pencil rubbings of it. This is one I think I would have trouble ripping up. So to the reference shelf it goes.

This has the cutest little drawings of people and food in it and is quite hilarious to read the descriptions of the cooking utensils and food.
Eg. G for Gadget...Any mechanical device that performs a kitchen task in one-twentieth the time it takes to find it.

After folding the washing the other week and flicking the towels as I was folding them.. Well a spider landed on my neck and bit me twice, it was so darn quick.. Big red lump and a rash developed but nothing else thanks to the advice of taking a antihistamine tablet from the chemist.. Had to keep an eye on it to make sure it did not get infected. But it was just fine in 24 hours.  So think I will have a lot of joy in ripping this one up to pieces.. Will be very cool legs for some of my collages..

So my $4 was well spent I thought.  I was there for ages looking through all the books. It was an everything on this table $1 sale, so thought what a bargain.

In the little Greenhouse...

I have not been getting as much art done as what I normally do as we have been planting out our winter veggies.. We got this little green house and I planted seeds of
Rocket,
Spring onions,
Spinach,
Leeks,
Red onions,
Curly Leaf Parsley.
This was after 5 days the rocket was already up and peeking through.

After 2 weeks everything was up except the Curly Leaf Parsley. That takes 21 days to germinate. I am lucky that I live in a climate where I can grow vegetables all year round.  I will do another blog post about the other vegetable beds tomorrow. I thought it might be interesting to keep a bit of a photo diary of what is happening in the veggie garden.. We have a 6 bed vegetable garden each one is a raised bed 3 x 3 metre.. Approx 10 x 10 feet square.. We grow nearly all our own vegetables this time of year and have a much bigger winter vegetable garden than a summer one. So hope you found my little green house interesting I love planting seeds and watching them grow.. With a little seed raising mix, a few seeds and a spray of water and you can grow your own food. We have always grown our own veggies and have something growing that we can eat for us, the chickens and rabbits.

More from my Junk Journal...

I watched a tutorial on making a Junk Journal that Teesha Moore did on The Artstronauts club. It was last year and it stuck with me thinking gee I must make one of those.. So I went through all the recycling and tore some magazine covers off.. Anything that I thought would hold up to some collage. Sewed and stitched pages together and came up with this. So here are some more pages in my Junk Journal..

A little green Alien came to visit in my junk journal.  I printed a copy of him from my sketch book. Coloured him in, all Aliens are green. Added some spots and squares on his outfit and gave him suction cups for hands.  The background is one of my Gelli prints made with acrylic paint and bubble wrap.. For this page I had to have more orange so I painted in some of the circles with an orange marker. Then I did more circles and filled them in too with the same orange.. The wording on the trunks of my attempt at alien trees, says 'Believe in youself' and 'Trust in the unexpected'. Lots of doodling in this one.

I just had all these little bits of collage sheets left over from Teesha's wonderful collage sheets that I print out.. So I looked for anything that would match and stuck them all down here.. There is one here from a print of one of my index cards also. I love using them here and there in my collages. The one I used here is the yellow with the blue circles. Random words that fitted the colours.. Even a raffle ticket stub, well it just kind of fitted in that square spot that was left.

Drawing...

Last week in The Artstronauts Club. Teesha Moore popped some collage sheets that she had made from Tracy Moore's (her husband) drawings. I have always loved the way Tracy fills his journals with these amazing characters.. Most of them are just made up of small shapes. Spots, squares and lines all joined and connected, come together in his drawings to make these awesome characters.. Teesha said we could use the collage sheet in our journals or use them for inspiration.. I printed out the collage sheet of awesome drawings and was itching to get my pen onto some paper..  Tracy had drawn this wonderful head of a bird so thought ok will try to draw that. I loved the big beak and spiky hair. When I had the head drawn well it needed a body and a tail.. Then well it needed a hill to stand on and it just kind of grew..

Next came these characters. Tracy had this one eyed guy that he had drawn.. The good thing about only having a one eyed character is that you don't have to draw 2 eyes the same and there is no spacing issues between the eyes.. Bonus... My drawings are not as detailed as Tracy's. He has far more little lines and circles, little words all combine to make his drawing something that takes time to look at.. If you would like to see more of what Tracy has drawn and the totally wonderful Art Journals he makes check out his blog http://sustainedconfusion.blogspot.com.au/

I had to pop this reminder on this page for myself to 'Draw every day'. I try to draw something even if its just a few dangles in my Art Journal every day.. Its good to practice, practice and practice..

Block Letters...

I love a challenge and over at one of my Favourite blogs to visit Daisy Yellow. Tammy has a new challenge for us.. Draw Your Words.
So for today the challenge is block letters.. That was a lot trickier than I thought it would be.. Lucky that I had Tammy's great video tutorial to watch so that I could watch along with what she was doing. Then I thought when I got to the end of the Alphabet that I would do numbers.. Gosh I did 1, 2, 3 ok then when I got to the 4, I just could not figure it out.. I think I kind of got there in the end though..

I thought I would grab this little book to keep all my alphabet practice in for reference..

So day 2 of the #90daysofblogging done and we have more people joining us welcome to.

90 day blog challenge...

I love a challenge and over at one of my Favourite blogs to visit Daisy Yellow. Tammy has a new challenge for us.. Draw Your Words.

So this is for the first one called Alphabetized. We had to grab a dip pen and ink and fill a whole page with Alphabet letters.. This took a lot longer than I thought it would, maybe because I did pick a big piece of paper.. I also used a preppy fountain pen for the violet, that was fun as I didn't need to dip that one..

Tammy said that we are going to use this in backgrounds for collage so thought the bigger the better.. I also might keep this and just copy it on my printer to use for the collage..

Well Tamiko from  http://mikosspot.blogspot.com.au/ thought that she needed to blog more and so she set about challenging herself to blog and set up #90daysofblogging.

So Sandee http://inthehillsofnorthcarolina.blogspot.com.au/
Donna http://damseldesignsbydonna.blogspot.com.au/
and I thought  to encourage her on her challenge that we would join in too..
So wish us luck on our #90daysofblogging.
