Helmar

I was live on Periscope doing some Gelli printing on some deli paper and I loved the way this print turned out with the flowers. It was so pretty so I decided to use it in the background to make a small canvas for my Helmar Creative Team project. You can find more details and list of products used over on the blog at Helmar Creative team.

On Sunday I was live on Periscope doing some Gelli printing on some deli paper and I loved the way this one turned out with the flowers. It was so pretty so I decided to use it to make a small canvas.

I used the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste and spread it over the canvas panel with the paint and glue spreader. Then placed my deli paper print over the top and used the paint and glue spreader to get any air bubbles and lumps out.

I painted some music paper with some Gesso then painted the background with some Decoart paints using the paint and glue spreader. Then I stamped the Tim Holtz butterfly stamp on top of that. I put that on top of some canvas material using some Helmar Tacky Craft Glue waited for that to dry and then sewed it on the side with black cotton on my sewing machine.

I threaded some twine through the wooden letter banners. Then tied some bows through 2 buttons to hold my banner at the sides. I used the Helmar Scrap Dots on the back of the buttons, as it was over the top of the twine so with the dimension this worked great.

Using Helmar Tacky Craft Glue I placed my sewed butterfly panel on top of my canvas.

Any time I do a canvas I always finish it off with 2 coats of  Helmar Krystal Kote Matte Varnish
this protects it from dust and fading and keeps it from yellowing.

Today I choose Happiness...

Hi all, I have been wanting to get my sewing machine out and sew in my art journal for a while so this week it was time to do just that.

I got 2 dictionary pages out and glued them on to a piece of cardstock with Helmar Decoupage and craft paste. Then I painted them with different blues in Decoart Americana paints. I used 4 different blues and blended them also with white to get different variations. Added some circles with a stencil from TYPO.

I bought this wonderful word papers on clearance at Kaisercraft and could not wait to use it. So it went on the background over the piece of Hessian that I had added some gesso and paint.  I also bought the paper with the quote on, It was a 12 x 12 sheet with all different quotes cards.

Will link this up with Paint Party Friday and Art Every Day Month and pop over and visit and see what you have been up to this week

Have a great day

Periscope

Have you tried Periscope. I have been doing a few live periscopes and having some fun. I am very new to talking and painting, drawing and explaining the things that I am doing live. Chatting to people that pop on to watch and ask questions. I was live on periscope last Sunday morning using my small 3" x 5" Gelli printing plate.

If you would like to check out the Periscope replay <------- click..

I had fun and ended up with heaps of prints. I did some decortated envelopes for happy mail, worked directly in my art journal and some prints over some old card stock that I will add layers too.  I am going to use them in my art journal, letter journals and the deli paper ones to make some small bags to include in happy mail. I show the bags on the scope.  So it was a very productive morning now I just have to make the deli paper bags and they are so fun to make.

I loved the scrap paper that I had taped down on my desk (photo below) will be using that somewhere. I am so glad I popped a new piece down on my desk before I started.

Hope you can pop over and see the replay leave me some hearts by tapping the screen. Don't forget to follow me to get notifications for when I will be on live, so you can drop in and have a chat with me. Hope to see you there soon.

Have a great day

Birthday Owl...

For the last 2 years for my daughters birthday instead of giving her a card I have painted her a small canvas of an owl. We both love owls and as you know they are one of my favourite things to add to my art. She loved him and he sits on her computer desk on a little stand. If you want to see more details head over to the Helmar Creative Team Page.

I used the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste. Collaging the background with music paper, book paper and some Tim Holtz washi tape. Then on some book paper I drew the owl and painted him with DecoArt paints adding doodling with a stabilo pencil and black pen. I cut him out and added him to the page with the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste adding more doodling around him to blend him in to the background. I drew the legs and feet adding a piece of collage with the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to the bottom of the canvas so that he had something to stand on. I added some dangles to the top left of the canvas and coloured them in.

Fun in my Art Journal...

In the last few months I have been very busy in my art journal. So thought I would add a few of the pages I have done on my blog.

I painted this with DecoArt Americana Acrylic paints and used a Dylusion border stencil for the triangles and the half circles. I loved the colours in this one.

Then well, it was butterfly time with some circles and a TCW stencil in the background. Lots of splatter fun on this one. The big flower at the side and the middle of the circles is collage pieces of my art, glued on with Helmar decoupage.

I have a thing about circles at the moment I just like doing them so this time more of my former art cut into circles. Then I joined them with lines and added words on the lines.

I just love to play in my art journal and I have so many more pages to add to my blog. I add them all on my Instagram page as I go. You can follow me there at sandybeachart.

Adding this over to Paint Party Friday. Hi everyone will be around to visit as many of you as I can
I always look forward to seeing what everyone has been up to.

Have a great day

Collage fun.

So I often get asked what do you do with the ICAD cards when you are finished with them. Well I like to copy them on my printer for collage. Such fun images to go in my collage art journals. I make the journals out of watercolour paper and have them for the size that they fit in my fauxdori. They are the Travelers notebook size.  I am in The Artstronauts Club it is fabulous for collage. Teesha is very generous with her wonderful collage sheets and I love cutting and piecing pieces together to make something new.

Thought I would show a bit of a progress shot in the picture below.
I got a bit stuck with this one and it was a few weeks before I came back to it and finished it off with the bird in the bottom left corner and the writing. More dots and lines a few more trees and it filled that big spot that at the time I had no idea what to do with.

It was a fun page and I have done another one that I will pop on my blog in the coming days,.

This is my Fauxdori that I made out of my old leather handbag. I just love the soft leather on this and I am glad I was able to reuse the leather. Its great to take with me in my handbag and slot different notebooks into as I need them.

Owl Wisdom and Helmar

This is a recent Art journal page that I had fun making for the Helmar Creative Team.

I painted my background just using a spatula. I just spread random colours of my favourite DecoArt paints over the pages. I added some stamping with a Prima stamp, newspaper print. Then in one of the same colours as the background I used the reverse chicken wire stencil to just give it some interest.

I drew the owl on some book paper in pencil that I had added a layer of Gesso and paint to. I spread the Helmar Decoupage and craft paste to the page and then on the back of the owl to glue him on the page. I did this to the hearts too just drew them on the painted paper cut them out and added them to the dangles on the left page.

I doodled around the owl going around him a few times and added some squiggles

I like to add dangles here and there to my pages. I added the quote in the middle as we all know that owls are very wise. This little owl started out on one of my index cards he was also on one of my Bookmarks a few weeks ago. I so enjoyed painting him that I thought he needed his own art journal page. Think he might have to go on a canvas next.

Hope I have inspired you to get out some book paper and a pencil. Draw some of your own little characters and add them to your next art journal page with Helmar Decoupage and craft paste.

I go into more detail with a list of everything I used over on the Helmar Creative Team page.

Fathers day and Helmar.

Hope all the Fathers had a wonderful day last Sunday. I have done a scrapbook layout that could be used for all those photos that were taken. I made this scrapbook layout for my daughter to use for her Husband. It's his very first Father's Day this year and with a new baby (my first Grandchild) I thought it would be nice for her to have a page that she just has to pop a photo on and it's done for her photo album. I used a free downloadable image on the page, just so you got an idea of what it would be like with a photo and finished.

For more information and details head over to the Helmar Creative Team page.

I used a Kaisercraft 12x12 sheet of scrapbook paper for the background. I added some Tim Holtz washi tape on top of that in 3 places just strips randomly. I then grabbed some cardboard and ripped the top layers off to show the corrugations. I inked this with the vintage paper distress ink. I used some tags and random papers from the Kaisercraft range 6 1/2 inch paper pad called 75 cents. There is tags and shaped papers in the back of the pack so these were perfect for this layout.  I inked all the edges with the distress ink so it all blended together. Some domino paper and scrabble papers from scraps of Kaisercraft papers just to add some other collage elements. The gears are a punch that I punched out in some scrap cardstock. The printables for the Fathers Day quote and the photo image are free printables and are available below.
  • Free printable image. Man with Plane. http://www.public-domain-image.com/free-images/vintage-photography/vintage-photo-man-fishing-on-lake
  • Free printable image. Fathers Day quote. http://simpleasthatblog.com/2011/06/fathers-day-printable.html

I used the Helmar Acid Free Glue  on the back of the cardboard and all the papers. You need very little to get it all down well and the tip of the bottle is great and very easy to do thin lines of glue.

For dimension on some of the pieces I used the Helmar Liquid Scrapdots You need small amounts, just tiny blobs in a couple of places and do not push it down, so you get the dimension. Just lightly pop it in place.

Close up of the dimension that is achieved with the  Helmar Liquid Scrapdots.

Wood Art Bookmarks.

For more details, photos and a list of items used check out the Helmar Creative Team page.

I have been raiding our wood box again.  We have a wood fire and we get wood off cuts from a friend who builds staircases. When the wood gets inside I am always finding bits that I want to paint on. This time it was these thin strips of wood.
They are approx 8 3/4 inches, (22 cm) length by 1 inch, (2 1/2 cm) wide. They are quite thin ranging from about 2 mm.

I sanded the edges first and then it was just a layer of DecoArt Media Gesso and I was ready to let my imagine take over as to what to put on them.

I painted a tree for the background of the owls.  Then I drew 3 owls on book paper and painted the inside, cut them out and used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue them on the branches. Then when this was dry I drew the faces and outlined the owls.

I painted the cat and flowers with DecoArt Americana paints adding a little bit of stenciling with a TCW stencil for interest on the background.

For the third one I painted the background then used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue some half circles of book paper on. Then I doodled around the book paper to make flowers.  I filled in the petals with white Gesso.

I then got the fan brush out and did splatters (fun stuff) with watered down white Gesso on 2 and added black Gesso splatters to the flowers.
I then sealed them all with 2 coats of  Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Spray this keeps them sealed and protected from fading, yellowing and dust.
I think this project would work well with those wooden paint stirrers too.

Butterflies.

In my art journal today.  I made a card recently with some Darkroom door stamps. When I was practicing the technique with distress inks and spraying watercolours, I had a few butterflies that I really liked. I cut them out and had them on my desk, so thought I would make an art journal page for them to sit on.

I used my Neocolor II and a waterbrush for the background. Then I went over it with Gesso to tone it down. I added the Donna Downey stencil words with some Decoart acrylic paint in Purple Pizzazz over the top and then added circles with black Gesso and splattered it all with watered down white Gesso. So all just fun stuff to do.

Here is the card that I did with the distress inks and Darkroom Door stamps.
